To fully experience summer in Albion, Michigan, we suggest you attend a concert at the “Swingin’ at the Shell” series, from mid-July through mid-September.
Albion’s art deco paneled bandshell, which was completed and had its first concert in 1941, is now painted with vivid colors.
Bands from Michigan and beyond entertain residents and guests alike with free music. There is food and water for sale, and the last night of the season is often “Free hotdog night.” People are also invited to bring a picnic. It is also a good idea to bring lawn chairs, or blankets.
Another Albion summer fun activity is the Independence Day Eve fireworks on which are usually held on July 3 with the 5th as a rain date.. These spectacular fireworks are sponsored by people who love Albion and can be seen along the Kalamazoo River, just south of downtown.
This scene also shows the Gardner House museum, on the left, and canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and other river activities, including the Albion River Trail, that is a part of several larger hiking trails. This view of summer in Albion, including the bandshell, is part of a 56-foot long mural in the drive -thru of former Huntington Bank in downtown Albion.
The mural is called the Albion “River of Time” because it shows a linear scene depicting things happening in all four seasons in Albion, along with the river, brick streets, river trail, and parks.
