Legend of Albion Library
- Albion, Michigan

Albion District Library - The concept of a Carnegie library in Albion Michigan was advanced with the correspondence of Rev. W. T. Jaquess, pastor of the local Presbyterian church with Andrew Carnegie.

Rev. Jacquess wished to see a public library building in Albion and in 1903 received a favorable reply from Mr. Carnegie. The offer was to give the city of Albion $12,500 for the erection of a library building, on condition that the city furnish the site and vote to make an annual appropriation of $1,250 for the maintenance of the library.

The original Carnegie building, now the Children’s Room, was constructed in 1919. An addition built in 1976 provided more space as well as handicapped access at the main entrance. Renovated in 2002, The Children’s Room exemplifies the Arts and Crafts style of the original building.

The Local History Room upstairs at the Albion District Library contains materials for genealogy and local history research and many rare late 19th and early 20th century photographs of local families, businesses and organizations.
